Standards to be Raised from Apr 2008

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc (NCSBN) decided to raise the passing standard for the NCLEX-PN examination. This will take effect on April 1, 2008, in conjunction with the 2008 NCLEX-PN Test Plan.
The move to raise standards is in recogntion of the need for a a greater level of knowledge, skills, and abilities than was required in 2005 due to changes in US healthcare delivery and nursing practices.

This is the test that I will end up taking. Higher standards may make it more difficult to pass but I honestly can't complain about that. I would rather know that I am fit and qualified to be an LPN and eventually an RN. Most of us will be doing jobs that have people's lives in our hands every day! Patients have more contact with nurses than they ever do with the doctors. We are the ones that have to know what to do, when and how to do it. When I worked as the Resident Care Director of the facility I used to work at, I was appalled by how many unqualified people that I had to deal with at other facilities and hospitals. I would rather fail 10 times before passing the NCLEX then to pass it before I was fully ready and qualified.
